In January 2015, four schools were opened inside this camp.
The 134 teachers provide lessons for 7644 pupils, with class sizes ranging from 30 to 45 students.
All classes are mixed, so girls and boys are together, with the exception of one Arab primary school because there is simply not enough place.
The children in the camp obtain the same school leaving certificate as at other schools in Iraqi-Kurdistan. Besides the regular schooling, there are also open courses for pupils where they can prepare for the final examinations. In addition, we also offer courses for older illiterates. Sometimes there are also courses in music and painting lessons.
There are no religious classes in the camps, and we don't have any teachers who offer religious education.
About 75 percent of the children at the camp attend a school. Many parents of the children, who do not attend school, have lost so much because of the war that they simply see no more sense in their children attending school.«
