»Our bookstore exists for one year now and besides me there are five people working here. Each of them lost their job in the crisis and so we started this bookstore.<< >>
We started this bookshop during the crisis because we saw it was as a way to survive and because we love what we are doing here.
There is also a crisis in the field of books as books are very expensive in Greece and on the other side people buy less books if they have lost their jobs and earnings.
Our bookshop is different to other bookstores in regard to the management and the philosophy.
We all have a very strong connection to the crisis and the protest movement. And so we align our program with the movement. Our emphases are philosophy, history and politics and all in all we stock about 10000 books in our shop. We are working like a cooperative, we make joint decisions and we try to be independent. Therefore we refused state support.
Until now we have organized 15 book presentations and furthermore there were performances and drama shows in our shop.
It is difficult to foresee the future of our bookstore. But if we do not succeed then the big chains and publishing houses will determine the business. Not only in our field but also in the rest of the economy, that means the big fishes eat the little ones.«
