lidiano corviale rome
Lidiano (resident of Corviale, please look also here)

»I've been living for thirty years in Corviale and I'm one of the first inhabitants. I know many people from sight but I only have a few friends.
It's easy to get in touch with someone here, but mostly these are superficial acquaintances. There are not so many opportunities to get really close to people.
I miss the original concept of Corviale, because first of all people should live here as a social community. Right from the start this building had a lot of shortcomings, nevertheless most people, who live here, are satisfied. The local public administration has tried during the last 30 years, to develop a social environment with eg playgrounds, bus connections or a library.
There is a cultural program where I participate in and many library based initiatives. However, the cultural level is rather low. Actually, the cultural life of Corviale is a paradox, because it attracts more people from the outside instead of those who are living here.
Thirty years ago it was very difficult and painful in Corviale, there was a lot of violence up to murder, because there were very different people which were simply housed together by the government in Corviale and the residents had to learn how to get along with each other by themselves.
I also noticed distrust towards me by many inhabitants, because I had worked as a police officer and maybe some thought I was an informer.
I used to work in the center of Rome, but now I'm not missing the center, because I have everything here what I need for my life.«
