»Originally I studied political science and after my studies I worked as a freelance journalist, but I started a career as a police officer six years ago due to the uncertain working conditions in journalism.— Stella (name changed)
Now I'm working on patrol and I am currently focused on illegal street-traders. The influx of African immigrants has also meant that illegal street trading has increased significantly.
The traders receive their wares from China and they arrive in Italy via the port of Naples. This whole business is directly linked to the Camorra. But there aren't any proper investigations, not due to police inactivity but rather because of the government.
My job is to observe public places where street trading takes place. The goods of the traders are confiscated and the traders are fingerprinted and photographed. If there are previous convictions, the person receives an expulsion order, but this has no effect, because the political will is lacking to implement those orders.
Actually, I love my job as a police officer, but I'm not happy that my work is often in vain and pointless and that we have to start all over again.«
